A 34-year-old man has been jailed for life for defiling a nine-year-old girl in 2015.
Peter Kimathi was convicted on Thursday by Meru Senior Principal Magistrate Stella Abuya.
Abuya said the prosecution witnesses proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed the offense.
One of the witnesses included Kimathi's mother Faith Makinda.
"The complainant was even able to identify the accused in the docks and recalled how she was dragged by the accused to the Shamba from her grandmother's house," the magistrate said.
The offense was committed on March 14, 2015, at Barrier village Buuri district, Meru County.
Kimathi also faced charges of indecently assaulting the minor.
He had earlier denied the charges and released on Sh200,000 bond.
Kimathi was a casual labourer and worked at the complainant’s grandmother.
Abuya said the accused deserved life sentence as the health report and witness testimony proved him guilty to indecency act and sexually harassed the minor.
"She did not cry when going home. She did not tell anybody on that day. The complainant is nine years and on March 18, 2015, at night I with my husband Francis Marete found her crying. She said her private parts were hurting. She revealed Peter defiled her," her mother said during the testimony
The then Standard three pupil at Kinyenjeru Primary school after interrogations revealed to the court that Peter had sexually assaulted her twice.
She was then taken for a medical checkup at the Meru Referral hospital.
The parents reported the incident at Ruiri Police Station and the accused was arrested.
The defendant has fourteen days to appeal the judgment.
