A Kangema court on Friday sentenced a 32-year-old man to 94 years in prison for raping his grandmother, 94.
Samuel Mbaria was found guilty of committing the heinous act on October 11, 2016 at Gacharage-ini village in Mathioya sub county.
Last week, another magistrate’s court sentenced him to life imprisonment after being convicted of defiling a two-year-old girl an hour before raping his grandmother.
In his ruling, senior resident magistrate Dennis Kivuti said the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that the accused person committed the offence.
He said the elderly woman was raped around 7:30pm, just an hour after defiling the minor.
The victim was unable to testify because she was severely traumatised.
A grandson to the complainant, who is a form two student, told the court he was alerted by her screams. When he rushed to her house it was locked from the inside.
When he peeped through the window, he saw the accused lying on his grandmother as she screamed for help.
He screamed, attracting the attention of his mother and villagers.
When they broke the door they found both of the naked. The granny was unconscious.
Witnesses told the court villagers wanted to lynch Mbaria, but the local assistant chief pleaded with them to stop.
A medical report from Kangema sub county hospital, where the granny was taken for treatment, indicated that she was raped.
“On the same day, the accused person was convicted of defiling a minor in the same village. He took advantage of his grandmother’s vulnerability,” the magistrate said.
